You have the right to write!

Hello, I’m Adam and I write.

This is a website about the joys of creative writing. I’ve put it up because I want to encourage you to take up this fantastic hobby.

Let me be really clear… I am not selling anything. AN-Y-THING here.

  • It IS NOT about getting published….
  • I DO NOT have ten top tips for tempting an agent….
  • I WILL NOT try to sell you my book on how to make a million as a writer…

I write for the love of it – and I want you to give it a go on the same terms – for the joy it will give you.

You have the right to write, and I want to help…

If this sounds like it might be for you, hit the ‘follow’ button at the bottom of the page and I’ll let you know when I post. You can also follow me on twitter @AdamEBradbury and I’ll give you a tickle when I update these pages.

If you like what you see and want to get in touch – please do so via the contact page.

Something I’d like to get out of the way…

‘Amateur’ is not a dirty word.

Today if we say that someone is an amateur we might mean ‘best avoid’, ‘not very good’, or ‘hey, Tom, come over here and have a laugh at this’. In a literal sense ‘amateur’ simply means unpaid of course, but there was a time that it carried with it a sense of something quite special; an amateur was someone who did what they did for the sheer joy it brought them, and often they would do so to a very high standard.

I want you to feel empowered and inspired to write. I want you to look back at a chapter of your novel, or your short stories and feel proud of what you’ve been spending your time on… don’t need to justify your new hobby by seeking approval from an agent or publisher (or reader). It’s fine to write for yourself. Be an amateur.

See you soon – and until then – all good things to you….Adam

  1. Totally agree with you Adam. The moment I realised that I write for the sheer pleasure of creating a cast of characters I can control (almost) I stopped apologising for doing what I love. My first novel was published last month – total surprise to find someone else liked it and, more importantly, understood.
